Self-doubt is something that everyone experiences from time to time. But if you’re paralysed when it comes to decision making and constantly feeling unsure and under confident then tackling self-doubt could make big changes in your life.
A self-doubt checklist
- Own your ambition.
- Act ‘As If’ you’re the version of you who already has self-belief – what would they do, say and feel?
- Emotions are invitations – uncomfortable feelings are useful data. And the chance to renegotiate the relationship you have with these emotions. Allow yourself to sit in the discomfort instead of trying to get through or suppress hard emotions. What are they trying to tell you?
- Change the voice inside your head saying “anything could happen” for a cheerleader who says “ANYthing could happen!”
- Get used to how your comfort zone works. It’s flexible – things that feel uncomfortable now might be easy after some repetition.
- Remember that success is not a finish line, it’s a milestone
- Remind yourself that you’ll rarely feel confident about something before you need it – confidence comes from doing. So do it while you’re full of self doubt and see what happens.
Resilience builds confidence
When you start building resilience you will naturally feel less self-doubt. That’s because part of the work we do in coaching is filling in the gaps that allow self-doubt to creep in. We will focus on defining your values and identity, changing your beliefs from limiting to open and optimistic and giving you tools to override self-doubt when you feel it.
