Self-doubt is: “a state of uncertainty about the truth of anything about ourselves.” So, it’s the opposite of authenticity and clearly rooted in a lack of self-awareness.
It’s amazing how many of us power through life with little understanding of who we really are, why we do what we do and what we really want. And yet we still expect to feel confident and sure of ourselves.
4 ways to build authenticity
- Increase self-awareness – regularly check in with your thoughts and/or answer some of the big questions like What’s holding me back from living the life I want to?
- Get clear on your passions + purpose.
- Define your values.
- Look at your identity statements.
If you want to build authenticity, try these:
Self-awareness – you can build self-awareness with something as simple as journalling at the end of the day to make sense of your thoughts.
Passion + purpose are incredibly powerful and tend to override self-doubt completely. They are strong, energising forces that sweep away the negativity of doubt. They are also a key part of authenticity and living true to you. So, what are you passionate about? Think about what you loved doing as a child. Or what gives you energy vs what drains you.
Values are the things that matter more to you than to the next person. Understanding your values is like seeing your emotional makeup for the first time – why some things annoy you, why other things feel so good, where you can put your energy to get the most out of every day.
We all have things that we tell ourselves about who we are and what we’re capable of. These identity statements are creating a structure for the way you think and behave. If you’re experiencing a lot of self-doubt and fear then you’ve probably got the wrong structure in place right now. Identity statements can be changed just by proving the identity you want to have through action.
Authenticity is your superpower..
And it’s one of the things we focus on in resilience coaching. Because you can’t be truly resilient if you’re not being yourself. Ready to feel how good that really is? Book an intro call and let’s chat.
