This ⬆️ kind of thing is why I so often hear people beating themselves up about how they live life.

But you can’t just BE more disciplined. In fact, the more we shame ourselves for not having this “quality” the less likely it is that discipline will ever be ours. Because shame in any context will keep you stuck exactly where you are.

Discipline is not a personality trait

If failed attempts at being more disciplined are familiar to you, it’s likely this has everything to do with the methods you’re using and nothing to do with your ability to do it.

We treat discipline, motivation, calmness etc like they are a state of being, or a personality trait. But they are daily practices built on habits and what you do and think on repeat. And they are fueled by self-compassion, not being hard on yourself.

What can you do to be more disciplined?

Changing up daily routines to include small but mighty habit shifts is the key to more discipline, motivation and all the good stuff. But ONLY if you’re also clear on what’s stopped you before now. AND you have learned how to regulate your nervous system so that it supports, rather than interrupts, your goals.

There aren’t certain people who arrive on this earth with a zen-like sense of peace or a laser-like focus. All of this is learned – acquired through developing habits and a mindset that support these every day.

👉THE HOW is knowing the way to shape your mindset and implement habits that will work for YOU (not for someone else).

👉BUT ALSO identifying why you haven’t been able to do this before now i.e. what emotional blocks are in the way.

👉OFTEN this also means working with your nervous system so that you are not wasting physical and emotional energy on panic, anxiety, dread – or repeatedly freezing at the moment of change – so you can take steps into new things even if it feels scary and unfamiliar or you’re not sure if it will work out.

Through resilience coaching you’ll develop the habits, mindset and nervous system connection that nurture discipline, motivation, calmness, whether you’re coping with stress at work or getting up at 6am to exercise.

You’ll be able to blast through the obstacles that have stopped you making this change before and intentionally choose for yourself what might have felt impossible in the past.
