I can be quite socially awkward. And someone once asked me that if I am resilient wouldn’t I have got over that?
*eye roll
Please know that being resilient isn’t about trying to be tough or flawless. Especially flawless in the eyes of others.
Yes, it’s good to self-improve but, more important for resilience is developing a deep acceptance and love of who you are right now. You WITH social awkwardness, carrying Christmas weight or feeling unwell or anxious. It’s being loving, kind, encouraging and optimistic with yourself, whether or not things are going well.
It’s being fully, unapologetically you at all times, regardless of what other people think of that.
This makes you resilient because it creates an inner world that is secure, calm, compassionate – the ideal incubator for confidence, action and motivation.
Your self-worth is disconnected from what you earn, your relationship status or what other people think.
You can adapt and be consistent and tenacious – the things we associate with being resilient.
So, if 2024 is going to be a more resilient year for you, that’s where you start. Not in the gym, through goal setting, or at work. With your inner world.
- Increase your self-awareness
- Change how you speak to yourself
- how you support yourself
- how you see life when things go wrong
- or take action when situations aren’t ideal.
It’s the best investment in personal growth you’ll ever make.
